A Quincy teen faces charges he was drunk when he crashed a stolen car and then ran away from the scene.
Police said Thomas J. Sforza, 17, was driving a stolen Nissan Altima Saturday night when it crashed in the yard of a home on Washington Street. When police arrived, the car was empty, its radio blaring and the air bags deployed. Witnesses told police that three men and a woman had run away from the crash toward Quincy.
Officers found Sforza and a 17-year-old Quincy girl on Robert Road. Sforza denied being in an accident or even driving, and claimed he was walking to Quincy. But the girl admitted that she and Sforza, along with two other men, were involved in an accident and that Sforza had been driving.
The two other men, Alexandre Ferreira, 18, and a 16-year-old, both of Quincy, were charged with impeding a police investigation.
Sforza was charged with drunken driving, driving with a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident, negligent operation, a marked lanes violation and impeding a police investigation.
There was an outstanding arrest warrant for Sforza for receiving stolen property, police said.
The owner of the Altima, a Quincy woman who was out of state at the time, reported that her car should have been in her driveway. She filed a stolen car report with Quincy police. Charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle will be filed against the three men, Braintree police said.
