MSP PAT Standards?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: CTrain

I know I'm going to get flamed for asking, but...

Can anyone tell me the standards the MSP uses for the initial PAT test? I looked on the MSP site, and couldn't find it. Thanks

If you are talking about what is necessary to get into the academy, I think it's an obstacle course run around 2:00 min or so, then a 1.5 mile run. I can't recall if the run is a pass/fail or just an assessment to see if you are a turtle.

Just run your ass off prior too, do push ups, and get a pleiometrics DVD.

I'm sure a trooper will confirm or deny this.

edit: You will have plenty of time to train before the next RTT. lol

HAHA you've got a while before you'll have the opportunity to take any PAT tests, first you'll actually need to take the next MSP exam

start running and enjoy the "flaming"

Posted by: CTrain

I know the process; and know I would have to take/pass the written first...

I'm not that naive, and I'm not at all planning on taking either the written or PAT test soon.

But hey, I'm sure you feel pretty good trying to be an online tough-guy

I know it probably was just a joke... And I know how everyone on here gets all antsy in their pantsies whenever the MSP is brought up, but the post was irrelevant. I didn't ask when the test was, how the testing goes, etc. - I simply asked about the fitness standards

make sure your BMI falls within the correct range.
50 pushups
50 situps
1.5 mile run < 12 mins

these may not be the standars, but i'm pretty sure it's close.

pm me for more info.

Why don't you just call a recruiter? That's what they're there for.

If you don't know, than don't guess. Those are not the standards. No need to get everyone all fired up. CTrain, call HR and ask them, they will be more than willing to provide info if you can reach them.

Not even close 1234. Its two obstacle courses, with not very insurmountable obstacles. Some climbing, jumping, pulling a 150lbs mannequin a certain distance, handcuffing simulator. No sweat at all, if you are in any kind of reasonable shape....kind of like a 90 second sprint, done twice. I think I did it in less than 1:12 the first time I did it, and you have about 1:50 or so.
Then there is a 1.5 mile run, in less than 14 minutes, or something close to that. Once again, not that hard, if you are in some kind of reasonable shape.

Thanks for the responses!

Posted by: 1234hey

ok guys, sorry. I have a small cadet booklet that was sent out to me from a recruiter about a year ago, I thought it said some of that in there, I'll double check.

It varies by age of course.

I've been hearing the the new test will cost the State alot of Money. Does anyone know if they will go off the 6yr old test. is it possible to take the test if you're 35 years of age.

Posted by: 1234hey

I think since Coupe Deval is in office there will not be a new test. It's truly hard to believe that it's this hard to run a test. I flew to California to test out there and it was free! They test every 3 months throughout the entire state with only two officers and a couple of proctors administrating the exam, granted there were only a couple hundred test takers per location, but still. Run a search on the threads, but I believe you are able to take that exam at 35. At that time, however, you and I will be collecting social security.

Only if you also wear your 5.11's and CMPSA vest.

Posted by: 1234hey

Or you could leave your Campaign Cover on the dashboard in your car - I'm sure DI's won't find it, ha ha. I'm thinking Snipe that you should stop posting like now!

Posted by: wgciv

Post on, Snipe.. Freedom of Speech! If they try to hold your posts or your cover against you, just call the Herald!

Posted by: TopCop24

The Herald would love more juicy stories from an RTT, just make things up and it will be front page material

The DI's loved preparedness, personally I would buy my uniform and badge ahead of time just to show everyone how squared away you are.
