Sharon —
State police are searching for an unidentified suspect who stole a Good Samaritan’s car on Interstate 95 North early Sunday after the driver stopped to help at the scene of a fatal accident.
The two-car crash occurred at 3:05 a.m. Sunday on Route 95 North at Exit 9, according to State Police. The driver of one car was killed and the other driver suffered minor injuries.
Police said 20 year-old Gelson R. Goncalves of Randolph was operating a 2005 Ford pick-up on Route 95 North when he was involved in a crash with a 2008 Chrysler sedan. Goncalves received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Norwood Hospital.
Two passengers in the Goncalves’ truck – 21 year-old Decue A. King and 21 year-old Bruce Bilotta, both of Randolph – were uninjured in the crash.
The adult male operator of the Chrysler received serious injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified him yet, pending notification of his family.
A man who was a passenger in the Chrysler stole a 2008 Dodge sedan at the crash scene from a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help, police said.
State police said Sunday they have not identified the Good Samaritan because he was the victim of a crime, and they are following some leads and searching for the suspect.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Sharon Fire Department, the Medical Examiner and MassHighways assisted troopers at the scene.
The breakdown lane and first travel lane of Route 95 North were closed for about four hours after the accident.
