PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The Providence police department is investigating a possible attempt to cheat on a police test.
Police Chief Paul Kennedy said administrators are looking into an allegation that inside information about this week’s test for promotion to sergeant was leaked to a test-taker.
City Councilor John Lombardi told The Providence Journal that a police union leader has been implicated, but has denied involvement.
Lombardi said police should disclose everything, and say if someone will be punished.
The department is still dealing with a test scandal investigated as an offshoot of the Operation Plunder Dome probe of graft at City Hall. Officials are trying to take away the pensions of three officers, including a former police chief, for allegedly corrupting the promotion process.
