Officials Say He Made 'Irregular' Maneuver

Video: Raw Video: Fenway F-16 Fly-Over

BOSTON -- If Tuesday's fly-over during the opening day ceremonies at Fenway Park looked unusual to thousands of fans and television viewers, it looked "irregular" to officials with the Vermont Air National Guard.
The pilot of one of the four F-16 fighter planes that flew over the ballpark has been grounded, Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Lloyd Goodrow said Thursday.
Spectators saw one of the four jets fly up, over and below the other three jets in the formation that sped through the sky over Boston following the National Anthem.

Goodrow said the pilot was trying to slow down to keep in formation with the other planes when what he called an "irregular maneuver" was made.

While the move, Goodrow said, is authorized to assist in bringing jets into their "V" formation at higher altitude, it is not usually done at the low altitude the planes were flying.

"When the pilot landed, believe me there was a discussion. It never should have happened, and the pilot knew it right off the bat," Goodrow said. "Flight safety is our primary concern."

The pilot has been "grounded for remedial training."

The Vermont Air National Guard has been doing fly-overs at Fenway Park for the past several years.

yeah i was thinking what is going on....i hope everything is ok

I have no military training at all, so to me it looked like a stunt that he was doing. From my eyes it looked good and never did I think it was out of the ordinary. Obviously I was wrong.

no military training here either, but from the way the TV showed it, it looked like it wasn't planned

im glad you stated the ovbious haha

well if From my view if he could not safely geting into formation he should of just back off and the others would just go into another formation so it does look like there is a plan missing.

A couple years ago they flew directly over my house when heading back to Vermont. They were still flying at a very low altitude and my ears were practically bleeding that's how loud they were. It was an amazing experience. I didn't make it to Boston to see it, so it came to me.

I was on duty and driving an old rustbucket spare cruiser about two years ago when I hit the gas the exact same second that the formation flew right over me...I thought the car had finally blown up.

I second the motion that it was good. Looked like an old "Barrel Roll" move.

I had never seen anything like that before. Reminded me of the last regular season game at the old Foxborough Stadium in December 2001.
Two F-15's from Otis came screaming over, with one breaking off over the stadium going STRAIGHT UP !!!! disappearing in the clouds The crowd went NUTS....

Something tells me that VANG pilot might be docked some pay....

I watched it live on TV and noticed that something seemed wrong. Seems like a risky move over a crowded city and a stadium full of people.

My hair must have temporarily turned blond... after reading the title, I assumed this thread was about the hawk somehow getting evicted from the park after dropping his rat carcass bomb. Silly me.
