CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
Police finally took a Charlotte man into custody Tuesday night after a three hour standoff. SWAT officers had to break through the wall of a home on West Sugar Creek Road in northeast Charlotte to get to Charles Hall. They say Hall had hidden in the attic and gotten stuck in a crawl space between the attic and the chimney.
Police went to the home to serve warrants on Hall for stealing catalytic converters in September 2007. Captain Andy Leonard said," we took so many precautions," because of Hall's criminal history. Police say he'd been arrested several times in the past and charged with crimes like armed robbery.
Jurdie Means lives across the street from the home where Hall lived. He says he owns the home and was renting it out to Hall. He told Eyewitness News what he saw saying, "they brought him out. And we had several people here on my porch taking pictures. They brought him out and took his clothes off and sprayed him because he'd been in that insulation."
Three CMPD officers were also taken to the hospital as a precaution because Hall spit on them as they took him into custody.
Police say Hall faces several charges including assault on a police officer.
