Since there has been a lot of conversation about dispatcher training over the past few days I figured I would re-post this here. There are only 4-7 people signed up for it as of today. We need 12 to make it happen. If you know anyone outside of Massachusetts that might be interested please forward it to them.

APCO Institute's popular Basic Telecommunicator Training Course can be taught within your agency by your own instructors. The Telecommunicator Instructor Course certifies the telecommunications professional to teach the Basic Telecommunicator Training Course. APCO Institute-certified instructors can present the Basic Telecommunicator Course curriculum to trainees in either classroom or self-study format. Training costs can be drastically reduced when compared to sending your personnel to an outside source for certified training. You control the program and the schedule through your own instructors.
The topics covered in the course include:
• The Instructional Process
• APCO Institute Policies and Procedures
• Design and Utilization of Instructional Media
• Simulation Design
• Overview of the APCO 40-Hour Basic Course
• Unit Presentation Strategies
• Utilizing Lesson Plans and Student Materials
• Testing and Evaluation
• Skill Development in Practical Exercise
• Legal Issues

Upon successful completion, your Telecommunicator Instructor will be able to:
• Train new telecommunicators in a classroom environment
• Create effective simulations
• Objectively evaluate observed performance according to standardized guidelines
• Create valid and reliable tests and other evaluation tools based on course objectives
• Understand civil and criminal liability issues as they pertain to the trainer

Agencies may want to consider the Communications Training Officer course or the Instructional Design for Trainers course.

Prerequisites:
Although not required at this time, it is highly suggested that those who plan to attend be certified in the APCO Institute Basic Telecommunicator Course prior to registration.

Recertification Requirements:
APCO Institute's Instructor Recertification Program requires instructor recertification every two years. Certified instructors will be issued a recertification package upon completion of this course.
