DUXBURY —
A Plymouth man is serving a four-to-five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to raping and assaulting a 16-year-old Duxbury girl in her home.
Jerry Pennini, 24, pleaded guilty in Brockton Superior Court to rape, indecent assault and battery, unarmed burglary and driving with a suspended license, said Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for the Plymouth County district attorney’s office.
“It’s been really tough in terms of people blaming the victim and for our family,” said the mother of the Duxbury girl who was assaulted after Pennini broke into their house shortly before 5 a.m. one day in November 2006.
The mother, who was in court for the plea and sentencing Monday, said Pennini apologized to the family.
“He just started crying,” she said. “He looked right at us all and said he was so sorry for what he did.”
The Patriot Ledger is not identifying the mother to protect the victim’s identity.
Middleton said Pennini was sentenced to four to five years in state prison for the rape charge.
He was also sentenced to 60 days of alcohol treatment in prison.
After his release from prison, Pennini will serve consecutive sentences of three years of probation each for the assault and battery and burglary charges, Middleton said.
As conditions of his probation, Pennini must have no contact with the victim, remain alcohol-free and submit to random urine analysis. He will also be required to wear a bracelet to track his whereabouts and register as a sex offender.
