NATICK —
A Natick man who police said attacked his father with a knife earlier this month was arrested yesterday and charged with trying to kill the older man.
Dennis J. McElhinney, 39, was arrested as he was being released from an unidentified Boston hospital. He had been held there since the March 6 incident where police say he attacked his father at the Cedar Gardens Apartments.
McElhinney was charged with assault with the intent to murder, armed assault with the intent to murder a person older than 60 and assault and battery on a person older than 60.
McElhinney was ordered held without bail at his Natick District Court arraignment pending a hearing Tuesday to see if he is a danger to the public.
According to police, McElhinney greeted his father, Dan McElhinney, 65, as he returned to Cedar Gardens.
The younger McElhinney attacked his father with a knife, police said, and attempted to stab him in the eye and heart. The elder McElhinney wrestled the knife away and stabbed his son.
The father was released from MetroWest Medical Center's Framingham Union campus later that night. The son had been in the hospital recovering from his stab wound since that night.
Dennis McElhinney will be held at the Middlesex Jail until his hearing on Tuesday.
