About how long do you have to be on, before the stars and moon aline properly and you have the opportunity to go M-F?

How long typically before you can get into a specialty area, e.g.:TRT, SRT, K-9, Permiter Security, Internal Affairs, Transportation, etc.?

About how long does it take to make rank to Sgt.?

If I can think of anymoreI will list them, or if anyone else can add questions/answers feel free.....

Whats the current shift differential for C.O.'s, nights, weekends, holidays?

Posted by: pahapoika

depending on were your are you could go day shift with a part of the weekend in a couple of years ( the catch is it's 10 block walpole ) think they have 4 10 hour days now............

most guys need 10 years or better to get dayshift with a part of the weekend. ( not allot of sun/sat bids ) there are guys at MCI-Norfolk with 20 years and still have 7-3 wen/thur off . you can get the weekend off with 20 in , but you have to go nights

depending on how much ass kissing you can do IPS is a way to get off nights and weekends. a superintendent's pick also supersedes seniority.

transportation went strict seniority a couple of years ago and the average time in to bid out to the road is 18 years.

i believe shift diff is about $50 bucks a week , if you work the holiday you get your regular pay plus 8 hours holiday. there's also roll call pay and that's about $50 bucks a week too

How many years in do you have to have before you can test for promotion to Sgt.?

I know Walpole is hurting for guys (obviously), do guys get sent to other locations, or does everyone start at Walpole?

You need to have atleast one year in to take the Sgt. exam. The exam is held every 2 years or so. The last exam was last April and they have not hired from that test yet. On your second question, do you mean Sgts. or recruits going to Walpole?

That all depends on the current need of every institution.

LoL, nice generic answer, I like it...

Shift-diff. is 75 cents and hour. So thats $30 a week. You won't see weekends off on the 3x11 shift for well over ten years. On 7x3 it will be well over fiteen years.
