NEW BEDFORD — A man and a woman charged with attempted armed robbery were ordered held in lieu of high bail following their arraignment Tuesday in District Court.
Danielle Cambra, 21, and Patrick Silva, 40, both of 21 Jean St., were arrested as they were preparing to rob R&B Liquor Store, 189 Bellevue Ave., at 3:30 p.m. Monday, police allege.
They were stopped by Detective Gregory Sirois and State Trooper David Reis who were in an unmarked car, patrolling the area, looking for suspects who just tried and failed to rob Joe's Gas Station, 445 Bellevue Ave., a few moments earlier.
Police allege Mr. Silva was walking from his car to the liquor store when Detective Sirois and Trooper Reis spotted the parked car he had just come from.
They recognized it as the getaway vehicle from the gas station confrontation, police report.
When he was stopped, Mr. Silva had a kitchen knife tucked under his shirt and a red wool cap on his head with holes cut out for his eyes and nose, police said.
A clerk at Joe's Gas Station told police the man who attempted to rob the business wore a red cap pulled over his face with holes cut out for his eyes and nose.
That robber left after the clerk told him another employee was in the business, police report.
Police allege Ms. Cambra and Mr. Silva then drove down the street to the liquor store.
Ms. Cambra was arrested after she stepped out of the liquor store following the purchase of two nip bottles of liquor, police report.
Both Ms. Cambra and Mr. Silva were charged with attempted armed robbery, attempting to commit a crime and using a motor vehicle as part of a felony.
Ms. Cambra was ordered held on $50,000 surety bail.
Mr. Silva was held on bail set at $3,000 cash.
If he makes bail, he must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and stay away from Joe's Gas Station, court records show.
The case was referred to the District Attorney for prosecution.
