A 27 year old man was taken into custody in Oxford, Maine Tuesday after holding police at bay for several hours. Authorities say Kyle Hunt holed himself up in his house on East Oxford Road.
Police say the incident started Tuesday morning when Hunt violated a protection order, and went to his wife's house in Paris. She called police. He fled.
Authorities tracked him down at his home. They say Hunt fired three shots inside the house and was threatening to harm himself.
The State Police Tactical Team was called in and Hunt surrendered about three hours later. He is now at the Oxford County Jail.
Hunt is charged with violating a protection order, a violation of bail and creating a police standoff. Police say Hunt and his wife are going through a divorce.
Authorities closed East Oxford Road to all traffic during the standoff.
This is just the latest in a series of standoffs over winter which has kept police in northern New England close to their SWAT equipment.
