PELHAM, N.H. (AP) ― A Massachusetts man has been indicted on manslaughter and negligent homicide charges for a fatal crash last September.

Jason Connolly, 34, of Lawrence, Mass., was charged earlier this week in the death of John Sweren, 52, of Pelham. According to police, Connolly was driving the getaway car from a pet shop left when he crossed over the center line and collided with Sweren's motorcycle.

Salem police previously charged Connolly as an accomplice to the theft of a $1,900 baby macaw from a Salem pet store. Police say another man who was with Connolly jumped out of the car after the crash and ran into the woods to hide the bird. The bird was found alive two days later.

Joseph Murabito, 35, of Lawrence, Mass., was charged with felony shoplifting.

Suspect In Bird Theft Arrested In Maryland

Police Say Man Helped Steal Bird, Was Passenger In Fatal Collision

FREDERICK, Md. -- Maryland State Police have arrested a man wanted in New Hampshire in connection with the theft of a valuable bird and as a witness to a fatal accident that happened during the getaway.

Joseph Murabito, 35, was arrested March 10 during a traffic stop in Frederick and was charged as a fugitive in the September theft of a baby macaw from a pet store in Salem, N.H.

Police said Murabito's alleged accomplice in the theft, John Connolly, was driving when they were involved in a collision in Pelham, N.H. The collision killed the other driver, John Sweren, 52, of Pelham. Authorities said the suspects, both from Lawrence, Mass., ran away from the scene.

Connolly was arrested about a week later.

Murabito has waived extradition and is being held at the Frederick County Jail.
