Godspeed to the CO's injured today!

Prison In Lockdown After Inmates Attack Officers

WALPOLE, Mass. (WBZ) ― The maximum security state prison in Walpole was locked down Wednesday after five inmates attacked two corrections officers in a prison cell.

The officers were taken to an outside hospital with serious injuries, said Diane Wiffin, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections.

The state prison went into immediate lockdown around 2:30 p.m. when a fight broke out in one of the housing units. No weapons were used but two officers were seriously hurt, thought heir injuries were not life-threatening, Wiffin said.

The inmates face disciplinary action and possible charges because of the incident.

The lockdown, which means inmates must remain inside their cells with no visitors, was expected to remain in place until sometime Thursday.

Hope those 5 inmates got some extra special TREATMENT!! Speedy recovery to those injured CO's.

Does anybody here work at Walpole. I did for a while but after nearly being attacked a bunch of times by the inmates I figured this job wasnt worth it is I quit. I guess I was "scared"....

ANYWAYS
can anyone give names on the COs that were injured I am curious to know whether I knew them. The inmates names I could care less about.

Damn stupid inmates. they always wait for shift change to start trouble with the staff. Hell I was even attacked with weapons at shift change.

.

Possible charges??? What a disgrace to those CO's if they don't pursue charges against those inmates to their fullest. Hope for a speedy recovery

thoughts and prayers to the CO's that were attacked. I am assuming the 5 convicts will be transferred?

The D.O.C's thoughts & prayers are with the inmates. If you think they give a shit about the C.O.s at Walpole youre a fool. Rest assured... The D.O.C. is doing everything possible to protect the inmates involved and end the lockdown. The days of "jailhouse justice" are long gone.

We as CO's dont have a say if we want to pursue charges. It's completely up to the District attorneys office. And they probably wont even bother.

Your union officials should be at the district court first thing in the morning with criminal complaints against those inmates, then have a press conference in front of the courthouse after filing them.

Watch how fast the DA's office moves then.

Best wishes to the COs. Would like to know more of what happened.

I wonder what effect this will have on recruiting? Do assaults on COs happen often at Walpole (I was under the impression most are inmate/inmate)?

Absolutely, good advice!!!

I'm assuming no one here knows the names of the COs attacked. Looks like I will have to call some of my buddies to find out. I'm just worried that it wasnt any of my boys.

As for the inmates. They will be thrown in the Seg unit. More then likely they might be transfered to another institution for security reasons. Attacks on COs happen all the time. The media just doesn't catch wind of everything that happens. There is probably a 5% chance these inmates will be prosecuted. I know this based on experience working at Walpole for 2 years. The DOC admin cares more about the inmates then the staff.

The institution will be on lockdown for maybe 1 day. Maybe even less. A huge physical altercation with weapons involved will lock the institution down for 3-4 days maybe even a week. Inmate on staff assault will have the institution locked down for 1 day...

The place was insane so I quit. I was attacked by an inmate and I had to defend myself. The inmate was placed in the Seg unit and I was placed under investigation and they tried to suspend me

Speedy recovery to the injured CO's.

My thoughts and prayers are with the COs and their families...

Good luck brothers and to a speedy recovery !!!!!

I just got the inside scoop from my boys that actualy responded to the fight. One CO fractured cheek bone. The other fractured eye socket and no he didnt lose his eye. Poor guys were all rookies. The inmates all complete bitches. I never had a problem with most of them but one of them always tried to fight me and intimidate me. This inmate I wont give names but he is the guy who stabbed Paul Pierce a while ago in the night club that almost killed him.

Anyways the institution was locked down for one day and the COs are livid because it is a slap in their face. I find it coincidental that in the past 3-4 years all the major inmate on staff beatdowns that involved broken body parts, weapons, and near fatal injuries always involved rookies with less then 6 months on the job. The inmates in Walpole are hungry to attack rookies because they are inexperienced......

I dont mean to scare anyone who is thinking about becoming a CO but if you are hired be prepared to go to Walpole and be prepared to protect your lively hood at all costs.

my friend compared Walpole 2 a Jean-Claude VanDamme movie.

Working in a Maximum Security Prison, this is the kind of things that we all could face any given day at any given time. My thoughts and prayers go out to the 5 officers...."GET WELL SOON".

Back in the day there was plenty of "jail house justice" - 2 teeth for a tooth.

Posted by: csauce777

Its crazy...in other states this kind of attack would buy those inmates a trip to the ICU, followed by another 5-7 years of hard time. These guys are probably back in the yard as we speak...

You know the place is off the hook if people turn down promotions because they don't want to go back to Walpole. I know a few DOC officers and one of them worked there for 10 years and was stabbed in his left shoulder 5 times when fighting an inmate once.

Good luck to anyone that works there.
