Cafe aims for excruciating nonstop Danny Boy record
If you like the song Danny Boy, then the place you want to be right now is probably a cafe in Ferndale, Michigan.
AJ's Cafe is hosting an effort to set a Guinness World Record for contiunous singing of the song. The 50-hour marathon began on Saturday, and is planned to run until the evening of today, St. Patrick's Day.
Owner AJ O'Neil told the Detroit Free Press on Sunday that, after more than 24 hours of the song, he's still not sick of it.
People are taking turns singing the song. O'Neil says there's been a lot of variety, including six church choirs in a row at one point.
St. Patrick's Day is the feast day celebrating the patron saint of Ireland, upon which day it is traditional for anybody who's ever been to Ireland, enjoyed a U2 song or owned a dog called Seamus to proudly proclaim their Irishness, wear a stupid green hat and drink a pint of Guinness before deciding they don't really like it.
