Here's a warning to men popping the question - don't put the ring in a balloon. Lefkos Hajji, from London, told a florist to put the £6,000 diamond engagement ring inside a helium balloon, The Sun reported. His plan was to pop the question to his girlfriend outdoors. But as he left the shop a gust pulled the balloon from his hand and the balloon soared into the sky. The luckless Romeo, 28, told the newspaper: "I couldn't believe it. "I just watched as it went further and further into the air. I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me." The newspaper said the floor fitter spent two hours chasing the balloon in his car – but eventually gave up hope. He said when he told girlfriend Leanne, 26, she went "absolutely mad". He said: "Now she's refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring." The moral of the story - hold on to the string tightly.
