I see they are hiring. Past threads indicate there have been changes in the department the past few years. Can anyone tell me about the department as it is today.

Posted by: Kilvinsky

small unarmed department but seem definately on the right track. I can't offer more info than that, but it's worth a looky-loo.

Posted by: SCPDLT

The department has a first class Chief who has them headed in the right direction.

Posted by: k1ngofsoccer22

does anyone have any info about this college, has anyone interviewed with them?

Posted by: cheezsta

Nope I was wondering the same thing i applied wih them before online but have never received any response.

Posted by: WaterPistola

well i know its an all women's school or was, but besides that no info

Posted by: masscopguy

The undergraduate program is all women but the graduate programs are co-ed. They are well know for their library science program and their graduate program in business administration.

They are located right next door from Emmanuel College and Weelock College. Both Weeklock and emmanuel have security departments. I think Emmanuel uses Secruitas.

These positions are for "public safety officers" not police officers correct? It is just a security guard position I think.

That would be the impression I got reading the job requirements of the PS officers and sergeants. If it was a police officer job posting there would be a little more to the requirements. No mention of special police authority what-so-ever in the PS posting. Doubtful they would advertise a police patrolman's job and NOT mention that. It seems they want to go in-house with at least some of the security positions and use those persons as dispatchers as well. Interesting and would give someone some great experience in two aspects of the job.

Simmons College has a police department that operates under the Department of Public Safety. The are currently in the process of obtaining a shipment of firearms to arm thier officers. The college approved the arming of thier officers a few months ago. It is a sound department to work for and offers competitive pay and benefits. No, I don't work there but I have recieved this information from a member of the department who currently holds rank.

I was told that they will be armed by Aug. and yes there Chief is top notch and a good guy to boot!

Posted by: LikeIt223

i once held some rank, but the BX made me give it back-- turns out they didn't believe I was a two-star!

If my memory serves me correctly, they have "public safety officers" ie - security officers who handle dispatch, unlocks, etc., and they have "patrol officers" who are SSPO's and handle all police service calls.

Guns at an Ultra-Liberal Feminist College? Seems unlikely.........

Plus, with all of the recent debate about arming college PD's, surely we would have heard something about this by now.

I don't make it a habit to joke about departments who don't have guns, getting guns. Its a serious issue that needs to be addressed so I would only say it if it were true. It is certainly your choice to believe me or not. If you apply, then you will see the truth for yourself. If you apply, I wish you the best of luck, the SSPO's who work there are good guys who know thier stuff and the chief is a good one to work for.

Ummmm, I wasn't joking about the department not having guns. If you research my posts, I am very "pro-arming" campus PD's. I was referring to the thought of the Simmons College Admin/Faculty/Staff/Students allowing their PD to go armed. I just don't see that happening at such a liberal school. If it does, that's great and I wish the Simmons PD all the best.

I do know that the guys and gals @ Simmons are a good bunch as I used to work in the area and interacted with them on a regular basis. I wish them luck as they have a difficult job to do without the proper tools.

Posted by: Boxer3

I used to work @ Simmons (on the pd side) and I still speak with the Chief on a regular basis (ret. Revere P.D. Capt). In the last 2 years the school has a new President and a new director of business affairs (who the Chief reports to). I have this from the Chief's mouth, they are getting armed ... all approved and the firearms are on the way. I hope this info helps anyone who wishes to apply. Great Chief to work for.

I beleive the officers at the all female and ultra liberal College in Swellsley ( that boasts one Sen. Hilliary Clinton as a proud graduate) carry firearms?

Can anyone confirm this?

Valid point. They do in fact carry.

Posted by: Kilvinsky

They've carried for MANY years.
I recall when they carried snub nosed revolvers. I had never seen a uniform holster for a snubby and it certainly looked very different on a duty belt.

They carry semi-autos now.

Posted by: k1ngofsoccer22

has anyone heard back from them yet, sent resume and applied online bout a month ago...

Posted by: ALLCOMM

Same here, have yet to hear anything

Posted by: Deputydog522

The positions are for Public Safety Officer. Is that for the Police position? I know they have Public Safety Officers and Police officers.

SECURITAS IS A JOKE.

Does any one know what the pay scale is for these positions?

Posted by: Boxer3

I think you would be around 20 (per/hr) ... give or take. Call HR to make sure. When I was @ Simmons the Chief/Dep. gave yearly reviews/merit raises. If you play by the rules you can somewhat control your salary.
