NATICK —
Two Neiman Marcus store detectives were struck by a car containing fleeing shoplifting suspects Monday night at the Natick Collection, police said.
One of the detectives was dragged several feet by an open car door, but was not seriously injured, police said.
Several hours later, police in Boston arrested John F. Gwynn, 38, of Hyde Park, and Debora Ann Mann, 35, of Quincy, in the 6:01 p.m. incident, said police spokesman Lt. Brian Grassey.
"It was reported as a larceny," he said. "However, we found the situation was far more serious than that, given the nature of their getaway."
Neiman Marcus security officers told police they saw a woman, later identified as Mann, take a $2,500 purse and leave the store without paying, Grassey said. The store detectives followed her to a parking garage and saw her get into a car, driven by Gwynn. The detectives tried to get the purse back, with each opening up one of the front doors to try to stop the car from leaving.
"Gwynn put the car into reverse while both doors were open," said Grassey. "(The driver's side door) struck a detective and scraped a parked car. The passenger door struck the other detective, who was dragged for a short distance," he said.
Mann dropped the purse during the escape, the lieutenant said.
The store detectives, who police did not identify, got the car's license plate and gave a description of the suspects.
Natick Police contacted the Boston Police who arrested Gwynn, and then they found Mann, who was also arrested.
Gwynn, of 62 Colchester St., and Mann, of 15 Berlin St., were both charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. They were charged with armed robbery because they used a car as a weapon, police said.
Gwynn was also charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the car), negligent operation of a vehicle, using a vehicle in commission of a felony and leaving the scene of an accident.
Mann pleaded not guilty during her Natick District Court arraignment yesterday. She posted $1,000 bail and was released. Her next court date was not available. Gwynn is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.

You'd think the bail would be just as high as the items she took....

The Neiman Marcus guys are pretty aggressive. Hope it doesn't come back to bite 'em in the ass more seriously than it did here. Is your life worth a $2500 purse???

If your not armed and don't have the authority. Why even bother. I have a better Idea, have one of them grab a video camera, and record the incident and get the plate. Thats the best they can do. What are they dummies.

My life sure as hell isn't $2,500.
