Somerset - A 31-year-old woman allegedly carting around thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, including a school ring, was arrested on burglary charges and numerous warrants on Tuesday morning.
Police said Beth Deyo, whose last known address was 846 Pleasant St., broke into at least one home and damaged a basement door in attempt to break into another home, both located in the Pleasant/North Street area.
Police said they investigated numerous reports of a suspicious female in that area and obtained a description of the woman.
Officer Kevin Borges located a female walking along Pleasant Street about 8:20 a.m. who matched the description of the woman. He and another officer spoke to her and noticed jewelry and a silver clock sticking out of her open pockets.
After allegedly giving a false name, police learned Deyo’s real identity and discovered there were several warrants for her arrest.
After a search, police found more property in Deyo’s purse, including a college ring with a name inscribed inside. Police Chief John Ferreira asked her who the ring belonged to. She said it belonged to her father, but did not know the name of the college.
The name of the suspect’s father did not match the name inscribed inside the ring. Officer David Lebreche discovered that a male with the same name lived in the area. His home had been broken into and jewelry and other items had been stolen. The homeowners identified all of the property recovered from Deyo’s purse.
Deyo was charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny over $250, receiving stolen property, and an attempted break into another home.
She was also arrested on warrants, which contained numerous charges of breaking and entering, larcenies, receiving stolen property and possession of a hypodermic needle and a Class B substance.
Also participating in the arrest were Chief Ferreira, Lt. Brian Leonard and Officer Brendon Hague. Chief Ferreira praised the work of the officers for apprehending the suspect.
