PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A homeless man threatened and chased after two children playing in their Portsmouth yard last week, police said.
Jeffrey Howarth, 44, was charged with two counts of criminal threatening and one count of resisting arrest. Police said Howarth threatened to choke and kick a 9-year-old and a 10-year-old who were playing outside their homes on March 7.
Police said Howarth appeared to be drunk and was combative when they arrived at the Winchester Apartments. Officers placed him in a restraint to prevent him from kicking out the cruiser windows, police said.
Howarth was ordered held on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to be back in court for trial on April 29.
