Noticed the Georgia State Patrol is going to be holding tests in the next several weeks at various places around that southern state. I suggest you check out their website for further info.

Just wanted to jump in and say that GSP is a well-respected agency in GA. They have a pretty grueling six month residential academy, here's a video (mms://mediam1.gpb.org/GA-GSP/gsp_WeSetTheStandards.wmv) and a lot of pride in their professionalism and traditions. They have had retention problems in the past due to low pay and people not wanting to end up stationed at the other end of the state, but they have attempted to remedy the problem (ie: RAISES) in recent years.

The pay is fairly low, but the state recently approved a raise that puts starting pay at 35,700 upon graduation from trooper school (up from 31 or 32 not long ago). They primarily enforce laws on interstate highways (limited calls for service/local back-up in rural parts of the state) and you can be stationed ANYWHERE in a fairly large state. (There are 9 troops and 48 posts throughout the state). They still offer residential barracks for those who want to use them (mainly two bed rooms, similar to a stripped-down motel room); I've heard mixed things, but young, single guys see it as a good way to save money. Just like anywhere, if you pay your dues you can end up most anywhere you want. They also have well-respected regional SWAT teams that keep busy providing service for smaller agencies throughout the state.

I know someone who got through the hiring process in only a few months--they are almost constantly looking for/hiring good candidates at GSP.
