Congrats, have fun in "cell hell"...

But seriously, enjoy the new job, it has many good benefits and I enjoyed most of my four years there. And if you can handle working the hours, midnites is the best shift.

I recently took the test (last week) for a disp position at the State police in Framingham. She mentioned all dispatchers start on 3rd shift. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks

Posted by: mtc

In MSP speak "3rd shift" is the Eve shift, 3-11.

I don't work up there, but nobody that I know of is a lock on a particular shift - I do believe they, like us, train across all 3 shifts, then you land on the one that you'll stay on.

Good luck!

3-11 is the worst, id take 11-7 over 3-11 anyday, just my two pennies

You've obviously never worked the overnight shift for any length of time.

Posted by: mtc

I did mids for 7+ years, till I had to switch to days a year ago to contend with "family priorities".

I'm going back to my mids.... days was enlightening - I learned alot of why and how things are why and how they are.... and why and how.

Clicking my ruby slippers now.... "There's no place like home.... there's no place like home....there's no place like home...."

That is true, but i have worked 3-11's for quite a bit now i am 7-3, nothing like it. I feel you still have your days when your on 11-7 though, when i got home at 11 i would stay up all night sleep (dumb) around 5-6 then wake up around 12-1 then go back to work.

You sound like me. I got bumped off mids for 6 months and I can't wait to go back....July can't come soon enough!

Posted by: mtc

I start back this Monday night.... YAY!

Posted by: kttref

Soooooooooooooo jealous.

Posted by: Bravo2-7

Only time that I haven't worked mids since '02 was the 6 months of the academy and three months FTO. If you can get your sleep (big if there I know for some, I am lucky that I can sleep anytime), its the best shift. Best details, best OT options, you are able to actually go to family and friend gatherings from time to time without always having to get days off. And let's not forget the most important reason, you don't have to work during Patriots games.

Posted by: mpr4601

Every shift bid I get to hear how crazy I am for sticking on midnights by choice. On the ocassion I do a day shift OT I am reminded quickly how I am not the crazy one!

Posted by: mtc

I worked (dispatched) 3 nights this week, first week back - and heard more 'action' than I did in a month on days.

Oh happy me!
