SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - State police said they now have a suspect they believe is responsible for causing a five-car accident on Interstate 91 while trying to elude police.
The suspect was driving a 2005 Chevy Impala when he allegedly tried to elude an officer Wednesday afternoon, pulling a u-turn into oncoming traffic on I-91, and then fleeing after causing a five-car crash. The man ran down a ramp onto Main Street in Springfield.
Two people who were involved in the accident were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
State Trooper Dan Kelly said that the suspect faces several charges. Traffic was tied up for hours on I-91, I-291, and local roads in Springfield because of the accident.
