Female Student Reports Seeing Strange Man In Bathroom

Video: UNH Issues Campus Alert After Peeper Spotted

DURHAM, N.H. -- A man was spotted trying to peak into a female student's shower at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, university officials said.

UNH officials said the student reported the incident the next day, and the university issued a campus alert. The man was reported in the women's bathroom at Devine Hall.

"When she entered the bathroom, she saw a male who didn't leave," UNH spokeswoman Anne Lawing said. "She went in to take a shower."

Officials said that even though the male stranger was reportedly lurking in the bathroom, the female student showered anyway. The student reported that the man tried to peek through the shower curtain before leaving.

Like all dorms on campus, Devine Hall is locked down 24 hours a day. UNH said students who live there need a key card to get inside, so only residents and their guests are allowed inside.

The student described the man as 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a black, North Face-style jacket, jeans and black, Timberland-style boots.

A similar report was made in September, and a campus alert was issued when a suspicious man was spotted in three dorms on three occasions. Officials said the incidents don't appear to be related at this point.

"My mom always tells me to be aware of my surroundings, and that just kind of reiterates that fact," freshman Jennifer Clements said.

UNH police said nobody else reported seeing anyone in the building that night who didn't belong there. But they said anyone with information should contact them.
