FITCHBURG -- Police say a Woodland Street man planned to pay for college by selling marijuana. Police arrested Antonio J. Desroche, 20, of 119 Woodland St., Monday as part of an ongoing investigation, according to an affidavit filed by Fitchburg Police Sgt. Gary Ouellette. "After being advised of his Miranda rights, Antonio Desroche admitted that the marijuana was his and that he was selling marijuana to make money before he starts college courses in the coming weeks," Ouellette wrote. Police searched Desroche's apartment and found approximately half a pound of a green vegetative matter believed to be marijuana. Officers also found an undisclosed amount of cash, packaging material and a digital scale, according to Ouellette. Desroche is charged with one count of possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute, according to court records. Fitchburg District Court Judge Andrew Mandell released Desroche on personal recognizance bail Tuesday following his arraignment. Desroche is next due in court April 3.
FITCHBURG -- Police arrested a man Monday suspected of robbing his neighbor at gunpoint, according to court records. Alejandro Rodriguez, 37, of 128 Daniels St., is charged with home invasion, larceny over $250 and firearm in use by a felon for allegedly stealing $80 in cash and a $1,000 laptop computer from a 122 Daniels St., woman last week, according to court records. Fitchburg Police Officer Todd Deacon wrote in his affidavit the victim entered her apartment Feb. 25, after visiting her sister and found Rodriguez coming out of her bathroom, pointing a gun.
"The suspect then stated to the victim that he was here to rob her of some money," Deacon wrote. Rodriguez took the cash and the laptop and then left, according to Deacon. The victim told police she knows Rodriguez, as he is a neighbor, according to Deacon. Police arrested Rodriguez Monday on a warrant without incident, according to court records. Fitchburg District Court Judge Andrew Mandell ordered Rodriguez held on $5,000 cash bail Tuesday during his arraignment, according to court records.
FITCHBURG -- A fugitive Level 3 sex offender who evaded authorities for two years is being held on $25,000 cash bail, according to court records. State police tracked Mark LaPerle, 50, to San Diego, Calif., last month after he was placed on the Massachusetts State Police Top 10 Most Wanted sex offender list. Fitchburg District Court Judge Austin Philbin ordered LaPerle held on $25,000 cash bail Monday during his arraignment. LaPerle had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Fitchburg District Court for failing to register as a sex offender, according to state police. LaPerle was convicted of four counts of rape of a child (unnatural) under the age of 16 in 1992 and he was also convicted of indecent assault and battery in 1991, according to state police.
