Unbelievable

The military is investigating a "shocking and deplorable" YouTube video that seems to show a Marine throwing a puppy off a rocky cliff. The black-and-white puppy makes a yelping sound as it flies through the air.
"That's mean, that was mean," one companion says off-camera, addressing the alleged puppy thrower by his last name. The fate of the animal is not known.
The Marine is identified on the video and in other Internet postings as a lance corporal stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
It's not clear where the video was shot, although the man who appears to throw the puppy and another Marine are in full combat gear with helmets.
YouTube.com had taken down the video by 12:30 p.m. ET Tuesday "due to terms of use violation," according to a banner on the Web site.
"This is a shocking and deplorable video that is contrary to the high standards that we set for every Marine," Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Chris Perrine said at a news conference Monday night.

"We will investigate this and take appropriate actions," Perrine said.
He said the Marine is being kept safe in view of the anger over the alleged incident.
Perrine added that the majority of Marines conduct themselves honorably.
"There are many examples of Marines who adopt pets and bring them back from Iraq and demonstrate their compassion on a daily basis," he said.
If the video is deemed legitimate, the lance corporal could face a charge of conduct unbecoming a Marine, Perrine said. There could be administrative action, nonjudicial punishment or a court-martial, he added.

"It's all governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and anything from reduction in pay to reduction in rank to confinement to discharge from the Marine Corps" is possible, Perrine said. If others are involved, they too will be disciplined, he said.
"Certainly, there's a lot of outrage, and a lot of people are upset about it. I think every Marine is upset about this video," he said. "We hope that it turns out not to be what it looks like."

If, and I say If, it is true courtmartial him.

Posted by: Delta784

Looks fake to me, but even if it is, stupidity on that grand a scale shouldn't escape sanctions.

Posted by: kttref

I agree it looks fake. Rumor has they found a "dead puppy" and added the "sound effects" later. Regardless, that's dumb. And I have no respect for people who do stuff like that to animals, dead or not.

Posted by: Barbrady

I hope it is fake. If so the joke is on him.

Marines Outraged by Puppy-Throwing Video; Investigation Heats Up

YouTube

HONOLULU — The United States Marines Corps on Tuesday condemned a video that purportedly shows a Marine viciously mistreating a puppy and promised an aggressive investigation into who is responsible.
Sources at the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, told FOXNews.com that they were upset and outraged by the video, which was initially posted on YouTube but has since been taken down. They confirmed there is someone stationed there who served in Iraq with the same name uttered in the video.
"There is [a man by that name] here and back from Iraq," a source said. "Whether or not he is actually in the video, I can’t confirm that — that’s being investigated right now."
In the grainy, low-quality clip, the Marine appears to throw a puppy off a rocky cliff while joking with another Marine, who addresses him by a single name as he holds up the motionless black-and-white dog before hurling it into a gully.
“Oh, I tripped,” the first Marine says as he throws the animal. A yelping sound is heard as the puppy flies through the air.
“That’s mean. That was mean, Motari," a second man, pictured with him in the beginning of the video, can be heard saying.

A host of Internet blogs and sites have circulated what they speculate is the dog-tossing Marine's full name.
It was likely that the named man and others were being questioned in the case, sources told FOXNews.com. Those at the base in Hawaii were very upset by the video.
"We’re all outraged," a source said. "We’re probably more outraged than the general public. I hate that it happened."
Earlier Tuesday, the base's public affairs director issued a statement denouncing the vignette.
"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," said Major Chris Perrine. "This video came to our attention this morning, and we have initiated an investigation. We do not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action."
Soon after the uproar started Tuesday, YouTube removed the video from its site on the grounds that it violated content rules — though it was still accessible and available via other links online.
The authenticity of the clip, which has been viewed more than 145,000 times since it was uploaded to YouTube in the last two days, has not been verified.
Perrine said it appears that the man in the video is a lance corporal based with a unit in the Hawaiian islands. His actions weren't characteristic of those of most men and women who serve, the spokesman said.
"The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties in an honorable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States," said Perrine. "There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children.
"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."
"It's questionable," sources told FOXNews.com. "But even if it was a fake, it's still outrageous."
Forum members and bloggers have been frantically trying to track down details of the soldier.
"Certainly there's a lot of outrage and a lot of people are upset about it. I think every Marine is upset about this video," Perrine said. “We will investigate and take appropriate action and make sure our Marine is safe as well.
"That is mistreatment of a puppy. That is a violation of anybody's standards, and the Marine Corps sets extremely high standards."

Marine, Family Receive Death Threats and Hate Mail Over Puppy Abuse Video

Thursday, March 06, 2008

A Washington state Marine and his family have become the target of death threats after a video surfaced earlier this week in which the man apparently throws a puppy off a cliff and into a rocky ravine, according to KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The disturbing clip, apparently shot overseas and possibly in Iraq, wound up on YouTube before the site took it down for violations of content rules. In it, two uniformed Marines are joking, and one is holding a motionless black-and-white puppy by the scruff of its neck. Suddenly, he hurls the little dog into a craggy gully, still chuckling with his friend.

The Marine is called by a single name in the video, which has led him to become the brunt of hate mail circulated on thousands of Web sites, according to KIRO. His family has received death threats over the phone; they've since disconnected their number, the station reported.
"The hatred that’s gone on towards this family is completely out of control, and I think it’s just people looking for something," a neighbor who identified herself only as Dana told the news station. "They hate already, so now they’re just focusing their hate on this poor family and it’s completely wrong."
The backlash has prompted a police presence outside the family's home in Monroe, Wash., and in the general area where they live.

In the grainy, low-quality clip, the Marine pretends he tripped and lost hold of the dog. A yelping sound is heard as the puppy sails through the air.
"That’s mean. That was mean, Motari," his friend says, laughing.

So what if it was a big joke and it turns out to be a stuffed animal?

That thing doesn't even look alive and it even looks like it's paws are tied down.

Some people need to get a life.

If it was a dog, then they should all go to jail, not for killing it, but for being stupid enough to film it and put it on boobtube.

Marine expelled, another punished over puppy video

Jun 12, 12:27 AM (ET)

By AUDREY McAVOY

HONOLULU (AP) - The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq.
The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March.
The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air.
"That's mean. That's mean, Motari," an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.
Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is "being processed for separation" from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified "non-judicial punishment."
The Marine Corps didn't say what role Motari played in the clip.
The video was viewed tens of thousands of times before YouTube took it down because of a violation of the site's terms of use.
"The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated," Marine Corps Base Hawaii said in a news release. "The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud."
The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified "non-judicial" punishment.
Encarnacion is assigned to the Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
First Lt. Binford Strickland, a Marine Corps Base Hawaii spokesman, said the service may not reveal what roles the two men played in the video because that was part of the investigation. He said releasing such information would violate the Privacy Act. Strickland declined to provide details about the disciplinary measures taken against the men for the same reason.
