When the department says they will measure your "bench press ratio" do they use free weights or is it done on nautilis?

All departments I've heard of using this stat use free weights, not a machine...At the SPA (MA), they use a Smith machine, but it's zero gravity so instead of the bar being counted as 45 pounds, it's nothing, 0 lbs. In order to bench, say 225, you'd have to put that amount of weight on the bar...Your best bet to prepare is to use an olympic size bar on a bench press and bang some out

If you are talking about the academy entry PT test, as of December 2007, they use a Nautilus. If you are referring to the test given by the PD on thier own (not the academy entry PT test) then they are probably talking about free weights. A canidate must first pass the PT test for the department, then move on to the PT test for the academy. Good news; in most cases the tests are exactly the same.
