BOSTON (WBZ) ― NFL free agency is underway and Patriots Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel is in Philadelphia to meet the Eagles.

According to the Eagles Web site, after he visits with management, he will meet the media in Philadelphia Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The Patriots are likely to lose Samuel, 27, who played last season under the franchise tag.

He has played his entire five-year career with the Pats, who drafted him out of Central Florida.

There is also no report of any deal in place for the Patriots other prized free agent, Randy Moss.

The veteran receiver who caught a record-setting 23 touchdown passes from Tom Brady last season has insisted that he wants to return to New England. The team last week chose not to put the franchise tag on Moss, leading to speculation that a contract extension might be in the works.

If Moss does test the free agent market, he would undoubtedly draw considerable interest around the league.

Two of Brady's other targets, Donte Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney, also became free agents at midnight.

Randall Gay, who played as the team's nickel back for much of 2007, is also a free agent.

A league source says the Patriots have reached a deal to retain veteran linebacker Tedy Bruschi. He could sign a new multiyear contract Friday.

Yet another player with inflated self-worth who will regret leaving New England.

"I just want a chance to be able to win and get back to the Super Bowl" Samuel said. Then you shouldn't have signed with the Eagles!!!!!
