SOCORRO, Texas --
The family of a man who barricaded himself in a Socorro home has identified him as 18-year-old, Jovanny Rodriguez.
The El Paso Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a shooting turned standoff that left a young mother and her boyfriend dead. The incident began just after 9 p.m. Monday, when Socorro Police were called to a home on Holstein Road after neighbors reporting hearing three to six gun shots.
When officers arrived, they allegedly found a 21-year-old woman who had been shot inside of her home.
Less than one hour later, El Paso Sheriff deputies were called in to help with the investigation. They responded to a home a few blocks away on Faena Road the woman's boyfriend had allegedly barricaded himself inside of his parent's home.
The SWAT team attempted to negotiate with the man for almost five hours. Meanwhile, his family and friends waited for a peaceful surrender, that never happened.
At 5:30 a.m. the SWAT team fire several cannisters of tear gas into the home to try and gain control of the situation. It was confirmed just after 6 a.m. that the male suspect was found dead inside the home. A Sheriff's Office spokesman said the man likely shot and killed himself hours earlier.
