FITCHBURG -- Police arrested a Fitchburg woman on Saturday night and charged her with marijuana possession after finding three small bags of marijuana on her, according to police Capt. Charles Tasca.
Tasca said police found Iris Castro, 25, of 88 Mt. Vernon St., carrying three clear plastic bags containing what they believed to be marijuana.
Police stopped Castro's car on Mechanic Street for an alleged vehicle-registration violation, Tasca said.
Castro is charged with possession of a Class D drug, operating with a suspended license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle, according to Tasca.
Fitchburg District Court Judge Arthur Haley released Castro on personal recognizance during her arraignment Monday.
LEOMINSTER -- District Court Judge John Curran Jr. set bail at $20,000 for a man from New York City's Brooklyn accused of beating a Fitchburg woman in May.
Stacey Williams, 21, is charged with assault and battery, witness intimidation and attempted murder. Police allege he beat and choked his ex-girlfriend, then 19, in a Leominster hotel room in May before eluding officers. The woman sought a restraining order and was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.
The same woman told police Williams returned to the area last month, allegedly kicking in the door of her Fitchburg apartment and throwing the phone out of her hand when she attempted to call 911. During a dangerousness hearing in Fitchburg District Court earlier this month, Judge Andrew Mandell ordered Williams held without bail.
