FITCHBURG -- An alleged drunk driver led police on a high-speed chase through the city early Monday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police Trooper Donald Gray.
Gray spotted Danny Boisvert, 46, of 90 Albee St., around 1 a.m. Monday as he drove south on South Street in a red 2001 Dodge pickup truck, according to the trooper's affidavit filed in Fitchburg District Court.
Boisvert drove without the headlights on and he was speeding, according to Gray.
"None of the lights of the truck were on, and it was traveling at a speed that I estimated to be far in excess of the posted 35 mph speed limit," Gray wrote.
Gray pulled up behind Boisvert's truck when it stopped near Partners Pub and saw Boisvert turn on his headlights and then speed onto Pinard Avenue, Gray wrote.
Gray then turned on his blue lights to pull Boisvert over, Gray wrote.
"The truck rapidly accelerated. (Boisvert) looked back at me several times. I activated the cruiser siren. The truck did not stop," Gray wrote.
Boisvert lost control of the truck because when he turned left on Valdalia Avenue, according to Gray.
"The truck skidded completely sideways on Valdalia Avenue. It struck a snow bank on the left side of the street. The truck then straightened out and accelerated away," Gray wrote.
Gray followed Boisvert to Wanoosnoc Road and watched Boisvert narrowly miss hitting another car at the Wanoosnoc Road/South Street intersection. "(Boisvert) swerved around the other vehicle and turned right onto South Street," Gray wrote.

Boisvert then sped up to around 65 mph heading north on South Street, Gray wrote.
"At that point, due to the speed and erratic operation of the truck, and the danger to the public posed by the fleeing vehicle, I notified SP (State Police) Leominster that I was terminating the pursuit," Gray wrote.
Boisvert is charged with operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, speeding, a motor vehicle lights violation and a marked lanes violation, according to Assistant District Attorney Mark Dupris.
Gray said Boisvert has four previous operating under the influence convictions, one in Massachusetts and three in New Hampshire.
"This would be his fifth OUI," Gray said during an interview with the Sentinel & Enterprise Monday.
Gray recorded Boisvert's blood alcohol content at .18 percent after the arrest. The legal limit is .08 percent.
But Dupris told Fitchburg District Court Judge Andrew Mandell during a hearing on Monday afternoon that his office could not find any record of the three New Hampshire convictions.
"We cannot confirm those New Hampshire convictions," Dupris said.
Dupris asked Mandell for $3,000 cash bail for Boisvert, given his previous Massachusetts conviction.
Attorney Pauline Cormier of Leominster, who's representing the suspect, said her client is in danger of losing his house and needs to be free to work.
"He's desperate to keep his job," Cormier said.
Boisvert, who works for Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, Inc. in Ayer, wore a blue sweatshirt decorated with racing flags during his arraignment Monday.
Mandell released Boisvert on personal recognizance bail.
Police caught up with the suspect early Monday morning because Gray managed to get the license plate number off the truck during the pursuit and tracked it to Boisvert's 90 Albee St., address, according to Gray.
Gray spoke to Boisvert, his wife and teenage daughter at the house, and Boisvert's erratic behavior continued, Gray wrote.
"He mumbled incoherently, and picked up the live parrot that was sitting on a stand beside a bird cage. He put the parrot on his shoulder and began walking around the house," Gray wrote.
Boisvert's teenage daughter sobbed and begged Gray not to put her father in jail, Gray wrote.
Gray took Boisvert to the state police barracks in Leominster for booking.
Boisvert initially denied he drove the truck and claimed his teenage son was driving that night, according to Gray.
Gray learned of Boisvert's other convictions during the booking process.
"A background check revealed Boisvert had one OUI alcohol conviction in Massachusetts and several in New Hampshire," Gray wrote.
Mandell ordered Boisvert to see his probation officer twice a week and to attend AA meetings twice a week. Boisvert is next due in court on March 27.
