Fall River - A Cardinal Medeiros Towers resident is facing drug charges after allowing police to enter his apartment to discuss another matter.
Police said John M. Suart, 23, of 1197 Robeson St., Apt. 611, has been charged with committing a drug violation in a school zone, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug and possession of a Class A drug.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Bernier said Officer Wayne Rosario, Sgt. David Gouveia and Housing Authority personnel John Picard and Luanne Calvo were conducting the “Stop and Knock” program at the Cardinal Medeiros Towers at approximately 8 p.m. Monday when they stopped at Suart’s apartment.
The group was expecting to address an issue raised by Suart, and Suart allowed them in.
Once inside the apartment, the officers spotted drug paraphernalia sitting on a table. Upon further examination, the officers found a powder believed to be heroin.
Suart was placed under arrest and 57 bags of heroin were taken into evidence. Police also allegedly found a hypodermic needle with contents during the search and later found a second needle during the booking process.
The “Stop and Knock” program is designed to encounter residents and address issues that concern them.
