FRAMINGHAM - A Framingham man pleaded not guilty yesterday in Framingham District Court to charges he attacked his roommate Saturday, choking her and burning her with a hot iron after she asked him personal health questions, police said.
Mark Allen, 40, was arrested after the 7:45 a.m. incident at his 19 Hayes St. apartment after he called the police because his roommate, a 26-year-old woman, would not leave him alone, police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany said.
"He said, while he was getting ready for work, his roommate asked him inappropriate questions about his health," the lieutenant said. "She refused to leave him alone, so he called police."
The roommate, whom police did not identify, told the officers she did confront Allen about his health, but said he attacked her before he called the police.
"She said when she refused to leave, he said he was going to kill her," said Shastany. "She said he grabbed him with both hands around her neck and started squeezing so she couldn't breathe."
The pair fell to the floor and the woman said she fought Allen off, but only for about a minute.
"He pushed her against the wall and reached for an iron, which was hot, and pressed it against her upper chest," Shastany said.
The woman had red marks around her neck and a triangular burn on her chest that appeared to be blistering, the lieutenant said.
Another person in the apartment told police she witnessed the attack and heard Allen say he would kill the woman and "she was going to pay," Shastany said.
The woman was taken to the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham where she was treated for her burn and released, the lieutenant said.
Allen was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill and domestic assault.
Allen was released on $500 bail and is due back in court on March 25 for a pretrial conference.
