I have my mom write me one. It seems to work well.

I will also submit my 1st Grade report card also with my mommies letter to the Chief!

WOW for a whole 14.39 an hour. Don't spend it in one place.

Posted by: Kilvinsky

First off it says $14.39 to start, not max. Sure, it's not great at all, but it's not the worst.

Second, I'm sure you can take classes and eventually, if so inclined, get your degree for free from Suffolk.

Third, I'm sure there's overtime and a few details here and there and I understand it's a leg up to a cop's job.

So, that pay ain't terrific, but hell, it's a paycheck with bennies!

You can have the job then. It is all YOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kilvinsky, here's an early Christmas gift for you;

Tough crowd. Everyone's gotta start somewhere. But I have to admit, the rose colored shades are classic.

Does Suffolk have a high turnover? If not, you could be in that role a while.

Most Suffolk employees are allowed to take classes for free, I am not sure if that includes security though, may be a discounted rate instead.
Better than most college police jobs. Several buildings on Beacon Hill and in the Downtown Crossing area so you are not stuck in one place constantly. In order to get on as a full time officer there you need to start in security, and they will send you to the SSPA if hired full time down the road. The Chief is a great guy too.

All I have ever seen there security officers do is man a desk. They dont patrol that i know of. There is a booth in the main lobby of each of their buildings and they monitor cctvs and access control. The Police Officers patrol campus grounds. However, I have heard that mostly the supervisors will drive around in the vehicles leaving the patrolman on foot. Yes they also get educational benefits. When your hired you have to wait your "turn" to be appointed as a police officer and attend the sspo. They dont have a high turn over rate at the police end due to fairly good pay so, you may be waiting awhile.

Hey Delta, thanks for the wonderful offer of an early Christmas gift, but seriously, by your assessment, I don't really need a pair of rose-colored glasses, do I? Or are you saying I DO need them because I'm too much of a pessimist?

Best you keep them, but thanks again, bro, you're the best.

That's OK, most of the generation Y candidates entering the job market aren't really looking for instant gratification. They have no sense of entitlement and only wish to serve.

I'm just busting your chops...it seems like no matter what crappy, bottom of the barrel job is posted here, you find a way to put a positive spin on it.

The last time I tried acting positive...

My family almost had me committed.

Delta, it's just that, there are a number of people out there who could use a job and some who could use a job that has benefits and/or no heavy lifting and apparently in this case, primarilly IN doors. Some that want to break into the law enforcement field and maybe see this as a foot in the door. Any one of those folks might see this as anything BUT a crappy job and I'm not about to take a big steaming dump on something that just might give someone what they want or need.

Plus on another angle, what would any of us rather see, someone take what some might call a 'crappy' job, or continue to collect welfare or worse, stand around at an intersection with a Dunkin Donuts cup? Then again, we can say NO to the guy with the DD cup.

Last I looked, there are jobs out there paying less than this one and some have less or no benefits. I just feel good about offering encouragement and seeing the positive. We all see enough negative as it is, so why LOOK for it or attribute negativity to things that aren't as perfect as we'd like? It's too bleak a way to go through life.

I would also bet there are plenty of people out there making the BIG BUCKS who look at even YOUR job as a crappy bottom of the barrel job and I know it's not, not by a long shot. Your bennies are great, your pay is one of the best in the state and lets face it, your city ain't as bad as plenty of others, it's one the nicest in Mass. But to some big middle and upper management white collar types, you're just a cop.

So feel free to bust away. I'm not taking it personally, really.

I don't think someone collecting welfare or panhandling at an intersection is going to be either reading this website or looking for a police job.

No, but they're usually pretty good at creating police jobs.

My current job is horrible so I applied. I mean anything to better myself...looking for to break into LE, this may be it or I may break in somewhere else, but meanwhile the bills don't pay themselves.
