Residency and Transfers

Hi again,

I've come up with a few more questions to throw out there..

Right now I live in Seekonk (Bristol Co.). In a few years (5-7 yrs) I would like to build a home in southern New Hampshire. Does the DOC have a Massachusetts residency requirement? I think I read in another post that someone said they do not, but I wasn't sure.

Second, what is the DOC policy on transfers between facilities? If I were (for example) placed in Walpole, and after gaining 5 or so years seniority I wanted to transfer to Gardner (closer to NH), how would that work? Are transfers fairly common or difficult to come by?

Thanks a bunch,
Doug

--By the way, anyone have any good PT tips for increasing bench press? I'm kind of stuck at 150 lbs right now.

I would think you could find the information on line through MA Human Resources.
A few more reps each time. You will see the difference a weeks.
Good Luck N1RMB

steroids or HGH

I don't think the DOC has a residency preference

As far as the bench press. Start with the weight that you can lift 8-10 times. If / When you can lift more add weight. Do this for 4 sets, 1-2 times a week with a spotter.

you are on probation for 9 months doug and then you can put in for a transfer

to my knowledge there is no residency requirement. it's not unusual for guys to live in either NH or RI.

if you started at Cedar Junction ( Walpole ) and after your one year probation was up , you could go on the department "intra-net" and look for other institutions with openings.

but be forewarned if management gets wind of your request you'll find yourself at the end of some BS suspension. DOC policy states you can't transfer for one year after a suspension. it's how CJ keeps officers there.

Ah, sounds like where I work now. They know I'm going to college and plan to leave at some point, but I constantly get the little threats/bug-in-ear/whatever about leaving them too soon. I started working 20 hrs. a week and then someone left, so they wanted me to take on the open shift (double the money for me, they save on benefits). It's not my fault if they are stuck with two open positions when I go, we both understood that from the beginning.

If I were to get into the DOC I wouldn't be wanting to move around for several years anyway. I just wanted to see if the option was there to move closer when the time came to build or buy a home in NH (something I've always wanted to do). I know for a fact that Rhode Island DOC has a residency requirement, as I know some people who work for them. On the other hand, I think they tend to be more competetive than MA for hiring (so I'm told).

Thank's for the responses. Sorry if I'm being a pain.

Doug

no pain here my friend. that's what masscops is here for. a place to exchange information ( or at least what i like it for )

the DOC is a good place for money and benefits. unfortunately that's where the pluses end.

I will guess that you would not have any problem transferring to Gardner with 5+ years of experience/senority. Keep Shirley in mind as I am sure you know is also not too far from NH. Plus it will allow more opportunities for promotion. If your number is called for promotion (CO II,CO III, etc.) chances are it will be at a different institution.

At least you've got a union. I have nobody to represent me where I am now. They screw you over and sweep it under the rug, you make a fuss and you're out the door. Gotta love management

ya , have to admit they do get some things right. only took them 6 years.

civil service is the biggie. after all the in house appeals have failed , you can still go before civil service and win your job back. might take a couple of years , but it's there if you need it
