HAZEL PARK, Mich. --
A police officer was injured when he was responding to a police chase and was broadsided by another vehicle.
Hazel Park police were responding to a traffic violation on Interstate 75 service drive at West Meyers Road on Thursday.
The driver failed to stop and after a short chase, the driver crashed his car into a telephone pole. He was not injured and taken into police custody.
An undercover detective who was in the area came to help, according to police. The detective was heading westbound on West Meyers Road when he was broadsided by another pick up truck driving southbound on the service drive.
The detective, who has been on the force for 10 years, was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and is in stable condition. He is expected to be OK.
The driver of the pick up truck is being questioned by police. He said he had a green light and just saw the officer's car too late.
The detective was heading westbound on West Meyers Road when he was broadsided by a pick up truck.
