do you have a "go bag" or BOB bag in the cruiser?

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

I am interested to see if anyone keeps a GO BAG or BOB pack in there cruisers while on patrol. I have read about them on the internet but no one I know has one. If you do have one- what is the bag (make and model) how do you intend to use it, and what do you keen in it?

My GO bag contains a pillow, fork, knife, spoon, paper plates and napkins. My GO bag is made of paper with a plastic cover with 2 carry handles. Often given away in food stores for heavier items. These items are used daily during my 8 hour tour. Like Karl Malden said, I don't leave home without it.

WTF is a "GO BAG" or a "BOB pack"?

Posted by: Sniper

My thoughts exactly Bruce..........

Posted by: screamineagle

I actually googled it. BOB is a "bug out bag", and a Go bag is for survival situations, such as zombie invasions. Why in the eff you would have one in a cruiser is beyond me.

Non'yer damn business what's in my BOB....(paranoid glancing)

We had Go Bags-assault packs with ammo, food, water, and radios when we were in the DESERT. I don't really need one in a place that has a DDs on every corner.

I currently have one. I think I have about 8 Mags, some smokes, some thermite grenades, illume, 40mm piro, gas mask, water. Oh, almost forgot, emergency can of pringles potato chips. Ya never know when you are gonna get the urge!!!!!

These terms are common with some military teams. Some Officers ( speak to some of the New Orleans cops) have a small bag in there cruiser bag that has items such as - extra pistol mags, rifle mag or 2, water, flashlight gloves. its a bag that you can carry on your person i the shi&t hits the fan. this could be natural disaster (New Orleans) terrorism, active shooter, and other situations that we do not encounter everyday that we may need a couple of extra tools for - thanks for the replys. - by the way it has nothing to do with zombies -dick

Q, I bet ya can't eat just one.................

Just to clear things up...are you calling him a dick or are you signing your post?

The Street Survival newsletter actually had something encouraging officers to build a "BOB" earlier in the year. If you live somewhere prone to natural disaster where you might get sent off for a few weeks at a time, sleeping on a gym floor in a disaster devastated area, probably a good idea. Personally, a few MRE's and a gallon jug of water in a paper bag suffices for me.

My BOB bag contains an extra led flashlight, some loaded mags, quick-clot, glow sticks, mre, and a charged cell phone battery, among a few other items. I have only used the bag a few times over the past ten years but I was VERY glad to have it when I needed it.

Take THAT SE

most survival web sites advocate a BOB ( bug out bag ) with a 3 day supply. basically a way to walk out of a disaster zone / civil unrest , etc.

i keep some cliff bars and water in my work bag just in case. came in handy during the nightmare commute last month in the snow. extra cloths are nice too if you get wet.

I keep a few basics in a smaller rubbermaid box in the back of my POV. Water, reflective blanket, MREs, pack shovel, 1st aid kit, fire starting kit, basic hand tools, spare socks, gloves, wool blanket, small folding saw, fleece pull-over jacket. I've also got my old Army issue duffel bag thrown on top should I need to leave the car, and throw the contents of the box in the bag.

It's come in handy a few times....most recently when I sat stuck in traffic on 128 for about 5 hours in the blizzard.

Can't say I've ever had it in the cruiser though...just the usual stuff in the duty bag.

Most of us carry something similar. I've got snacks, water, change of underwear, pillow, blanket and stuff for a shower, in case we've got to stay a few days. We learned our lessons from the '92 riots and the '94 earthquake. We worked for several days without going home during the riots. The riots was an "interesting" time!

La Copper...youve a way of understating

I wish the military or our wonderful commonwealth would give us MRE's to keep in our duty bags.

For us non-military guys...

The first generation MRE's were pretty bad, and I can sum it up in three words; "dehydrated pork patty". You might as well have eaten a rock.

The subsequent versions were actually pretty good. Not my first choice, but not bad either. The thing is, you could package a meal from a 4-star restaurant but if you called it a field ration, people would still complain.

I put one together after being stuck on a road closure post in the middle of nowhere, with no cell coverage, no gas stations, not even homes. The F'in radios didn't even work. 14 hours later, I learned my lesson. A couple MRE's bought at a surplus store, gatorade, water, hygeine stuff, handwarmers and snacks. All fits into a standard duty bag and stuffed in the bottom of my trunk.

Don't forget about the old ones that were labeled "not for pre-flight consumption!" The BBQ pork was one of those. Gastro-intestinal distress of epic proportions.

The newer ones are far better. Heck, even the vegetarian ones aren't half bad. The old #10 was great...tuna with noodles and the chocolate chip pound cake. Just don't ask how they preserve tuna in a plastic bag for 5-7 years.

When I went in we still had c-rations...nothing like looking at a can of green eggs dated from the late 50's early 60's YUMMY. We also had Beans and hot dogs marked not to be eaten prior to flight in an unpreasurized aircraft.
