When reading this particular job posting that i found on Mass.gov. Is this for a spo rule 400 or someone of a higher education/LE training?
thx Delta.... I have been trying to do alot of research on the different job opportunities that are out there for SPO's. As I said before, when i get certified as a SPO in the next month or so, I am looking to make the most of it. Making the most of it, as in gaining experience that will help me furthur my career in LE. So when I look up different jobs it des get a little confusing when they mention " special police " in the job postings
Apply everywhere and anywhere; you'll most likely accumulate a stack of "thanks for your application, but...." letters before you get hired. Don't get discouraged; remember it's a war of attrition.
That job looks like the Shattuck Hospital Police. Have fun with that one....... If you get it you will do NO police work what so ever! They ALWAYS call the MSP to handle everything. Hell, we even get dispatched to fire alarms and medical emergencies at the Shattuck. I have seen them bring in ONE arrest to the Barracks in 2 years. STAY AWAY FROM THIS JOB! Just my $.02 though, you do what you want.
I disagree; when starting out brand-new, take whatever job is offered because you can always "trade up" later. If nothing else, the Shattuck job starts the pension clock running if you get a better state job later, or you can transfer your time to a city/town retirement system. I know one guy who turned down a position with a campus PD because they "aren't real police" and he spent a few years wearing a square badge & red pant stripes until he smartened up and was hired by, ironically enough, another campus PD. I always tell newbies; apply everywhere and take whatever is offered first.
Delta, I don't disagree with you on the apply everywhere thing, that is what I did and I have had just about every position in L/E (except Deputy Sheriff). It took me 6 years to get to the "NFL". I am just saying to stay away from this particular job. I have done the detail at the Shattuck a couple of times and was TOTALLY sceeved out. I wanted to burn by uniform and take a clorine and bleach bath to try to get the nastieness off of my body after it was over! It is just not a healthy place to work. As far as being a cop goes, If you have a POLICE badge, then you are a cop, I don't care what agency you work for. In my opinion, no one is more cop than anyone else just because of where you may work. Cop is a state of mind, attitude, and work ethic, not an agency. Again, just an opinion.....
One thing you have to think about nowadays is the fact that a lot of veterans are coming back from AStan and Iraq adn they are getting the top spots on the civil service list. Seems like you need to be a veteran to get hired nowadays. Q5, you over here now? That picture looks like it was taken in the heart of baghdad. You here now? I have a couple of troopers with me here. You don't happen to be one of them do you? CR31?
