Patriot Willie Andrews Arrested In Lowell

Charged With Marijuana Possession

LOWELL (WBZ) ― Patriots cornerback Willie Andrews will be in court Tuesday afternoon, charged with marijuana possession. A spokesman for the Middlesex District Attorney says Andrews was picked up during a traffic stop in Lowell at 9:30 a.m.

He is also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.

Andrews, 24, just completed his second season with the Patriots. He was a seventh round draft pick in 2006.

Andrews plays mostly on special teams. He scored his first NFL touchdown on a 77-yard kickoff return against the Miami Dolphins in October, 2007.

Andrews has been in trouble with the law before. He spent two weeks in jail just after graduating from high school, when police found a pistol in his car. He also was convicted during high school of misdemeanor criminal mischief which landed him on probation.

Pats' Andrews Pleads Not Guilty To Drug Charges

Arrested In Lowell For Pot Possession

Andrews pleaded not guilty to drug possession Tuesday, hours after authorities said they found him with a half-pound of marijuana. WBZ

LOWELL (WBZ) ― Patriots cornerback Willie Andrews pleaded not guilty Tuesday after being arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Lowell Police said they pulled Andrews' car over on Duren Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. after an anonymous caller reported possible drug activity. Officers said they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Police found approximately one-half pound of marijuana in the vehicle and on Andrews' person, they said. He also had nearly $7,000 in cash.

Police said the marijuana had a street value of about $500.

Andrews was arraigned in Lowell District Court and released on personal recognizance. He is due back in court March 18 for a pretrial conference.

Andrews was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle.

Andrews, 24, just completed his second season with the Patriots. He was a seventh-round draft pick in 2006.

In a statement, the Patriots said: "The conduct of our players is very important to the New England Patriots. We are aware of the report regarding Willie Andrews, but will not comment publicly on pending legal matters. As is our policy, team discipline will be handled internally."

He can kiss the Pats bye

Pats back avoids jail for marijuana charge

LOWELL - New England Patriots [team stats] defensive back Willie Andrews admitted to facts on a pot possession charge but won’t face any prison time.
Andrews, 24, admitted Friday there was enough evidence to convict him but did not plead guilty. Judge Neil Walker continued the case without a finding for a year. During that time, Andrews must speak to student athletes about the dangers of narcotics, pay a $1,000 fine and complete an NFL substance abuse program. Lowell cops busted Andrews in February.
