POSITION OPENING:
Campus Police Officer I
Grade 14, AFSCME Unit Position
The college may fill future openings from this posting.
Campus location and entering employee schedule may vary due to AFSCME Unit Contract shift bidding.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To ensure and maintain a secure campus environment; provide protection and security of persons, facilities, and property; patrol campus buildings and adjacent areas; enforces College and department policy, rules, regulations, and Massachusetts General Laws; provide emergency medical assistance; investigate crimes or other incidents; take appropriate legal action including making arrests when necessary; provide assistance to courts or grand juries in prosecution of cases; and perform related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation and spelling.
2. Ability to communicate and give oral instructions, in English, fluently, in a precise, understandable manner.
3. The ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
4. The ability to use proper grammar, punctuation and spelling.
5. Ability to give written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
6. Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes, and symbols.

27. Ability to understand, apply and explain the policies, procedures, specifications guidelines and established by the College and the department.
28. Ability to establish rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
29. Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations.
30. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
31. Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives.
32. Ability to gather information through observing individuals.
33. Ability to lift heavy objects or persons.
34. Ability to adapt to varying work situations and environmental conditions
35. Ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time.
36. Physical stamina and endurance.
37. Ability to work alone at remote locations and in the dark.
38. The ability to be sworn as a Special State Police Officer in accordance with Massachusetts General Law chapter 22C section 63.
39. Ability to successfully pass the Massachusetts State Police Academy medical examination, pre-screening (which includes physical endurance testing) and successfully complete the Special State Police Recruit Academy as prescribed under MGL chapter 22C sec. 63.
Failure to meet the entrance requirements or to successfully complete the course of training shall result in dismissal or, for lateral appointments within the bargaining unit, return to previously held position in accordance with the AFSCME Agreement.
40. Candidates must understand that there is an
18-month contractual commitment following Academy Training.
41. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Firearm Identification Card under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140 Section 129B. Possession of a Massachusetts Class A or B License to Carry Firearms is a suitable alternative.
42. Must possess a high school diploma or GED
43. Must possess a current valid Massachusetts class "D" operator’s license or equivalent.
44. Ability to pass a pre-placement physical after an offer of employment has been made.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK: Criminal history checks and extensive background investigations are conducted on eligible candidates for Campus Police Officers positions.
SALARY:
$615.79 per week, ($32,021.08 per year). An appointment made from outside the bargaining unit (AFSCME) must start at step #1 of the range

I live in Lynn and actually go to NSCC. I have applied for this posistion through the NSCC web site and also by mail but have heard no response. I am a 19 year old criminal justice student, and should be getting my FID card from the Lynn Police with in the week. Who would be the best person to contact about this position ?

I applied twice (once a year ago and once 3 months ago) and I have a class A LTC and reserve academy, never heard anything. To answer you question: human resources is who you would speak to about the position.
