EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - State police are continuing their investigation into the fatal shooting of a suspect during a high speed chase that ended on Interstate 84 over the weekend.
State police tentatively identified the man as 25-year-old Vicente Bermudez of New Britain. He was shot and killed Saturday night.
Authorities say the incident began at a Hartford service station with a report of a man with a weapon. When police responded, the man sped away and began a chase that went through Hartford streets.
Police say the man rammed several police cruisers, then headed onto Route 2 and onto Interstate 84 east. Shots were fired at the man when he rammed the police cars and police believe he was wounded.
The suspect's sport utility vehicle stopped on its own near the I-84 and I-384 split in East Hartford.
An autopsy found Bermudez died of gunshots wounds and a head injury consistent with a motor vehicle crash.
I-84 was shut down until early Sunday while investigators gathered evidence.
