DUXBURY - Police on Saturday will resume searching for a 39-year-old Kingston man who is missing at a pond off Mayflower Street.
Police Chief Mark DeLuca said the man, whose name was not released, was reported missing by his family Friday morning.
The family said they hadn’t heard from the man in three days and suggested he may have gone ice fishing.
‘‘We’re treating it as a recovery mission right now,’’ DeLuca said. ‘‘We don’t know if it’s anything suspicious but we always operate under the assumption that it could be.’’
DeLuca said the family went with a detective to some of the man’s favorite fishing spots and found his truck at a parking lot near one of the entrances to North Hill Marsh Pond around 2:30 p.m.
A jacket and T-shirt believed to belong to the man were found about a half-mile from the pond. Some fishing gear was also found.
State Police divers and fire-rescue teams from the Duxbury and Whitman Fire Departments searched the pond with hovercraft and the surrounding woods with all-terrain vehicles. DeLuca said there were four searchers on the pond and 15 in the woods.
A portable Massachusetts Fire Rescue command center was set up by the pond.
Floodlights were used, but the search was called off around 6:30 p.m. when it was too dark to see. DeLuca said the search would resume at sunup Saturday.
DeLuca said the pond was iced over, but there were areas of melting. The pond ranges in depth from 3 to 14 feet.
