WESTBOROUGH - A man passed out at the wheel on East Main Street was one of five arrests on Thursday night and Friday morning, an unusually busy night for police.
Police arrested Joseph M. Johnson, 35, of 3 Central St., and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol after finding him passed out at the wheel in the middle of East Main Street by McDonald's at 2:54 a.m.
In a night where the number of arrests almost equaled that of the past two weeks (seven), police were left guessing as to the reason for the spike.
"It's just highly unusual for us to have five arrests over the course of one night," Police Chief Alan Gordon said. "We definitely had a busy night around here last night."
The series of arrests began at 7:30 p.m. when a Woburn woman caught the attention of police when she drove on West Main Street without headlights.
Officer Gregory McRae arrested Alyson C. Gillis, 25, of 11 Karen Road, Woburn, and charged her with driving with a suspended license, driving with a revoked registration, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving at night without lights. She was also arrested on a warrant out of Concord District Court charging failure to pay fines, police said.
The next incident, at 10:36 p.m., involved a Westborough woman who was charged with being disorderly after driving into a stone wall on Summer Street, police said.
"When police responded to the scene, she was completely out of control," Gordon said. Jessica M. Coffman, 18, of 16 Warren St., was yelling and screaming, as well as fighting residents and pedestrians who gathered after seeing her hit the stone wall, said Gordon.
While patrolling Rte. 9 at 1:05 a.m. yesterday, Officer Laura Grasso stopped a car that was allegedly following too close to another car.
Police arrested Brett D. Leduc, 26, of 44 Neptune Drive, Shrewsbury, and charged him with following too close and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Nearly an hour later at 2:07 a.m., police arrested a Framingham woman and charged her with speeding along Rte. 9 near Bertucci's.
Police stopped the car, driven by Catherine M. Walsh, 37, of 30 Magnolia St., Framingham, after she was clocked driving 83 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. Police charged Walsh with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
