Fall River - A 27-year-old man was arrested after police confiscated heroin and an illegal firearm when they searched his residence Thursday night.
The weapon was the third illegal gun seized by police in less than two weeks.
Joshua Morgado, of 1886 Pleasant St., is charged with possession of a Class A drug with intent to distribute, drug violation near a school, possession of a firearm in a felony and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a firearms identification card.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Bernier said detectives executed a search warrant at Morgado’s apartment about 6:15 p.m. after confronting him as he walked along Pleasant Street.
They uncovered 39 bags of suspected heroin during the search, along with an EIG German Short .22-caliber firearm and 38 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition, Bernier said. Morgado is not licensed to possess the gun or ammunition.
Detectives said Morgado’s apartment is within 1,000 feet of Coughlin School, 1975 Pleasant St.
Less than a week ago, vice detectives arrested the suspect’s brother, Peter Morgado, in connection with the “same gun/drug-type incident,” Bernier said. On Jan. 19, they arrested Damian Gouse after they overheard a radio call of an ongoing incident, involving Gouse, said Bernier. The detectives recovered a gun and Gouse was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
Detective William Falandys was the lead investigator in the latest arrest, assisted by Detectives David Pacheco, James Smith, John Cabral, Kevin Bshara, James Elumba and Bryan Nadeau. They were supervised by Detective Lt. James Keighley and Detective Sgt. Roger LaFleur.
