Suspect shot by officer in Buzzards Bay

BUZZARDS BAY – A suspect who fled a motor vehicle accident early Sunday morning was shot by a Barnstable County sheriff’s deputy during his capture several hours later, according to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Bourne police.
A Bourne police officer said he saw Andrew Parker, 24, of 17 Lake Drive, Plymouth, flee after he hit a parked car with a 2003 Honda on Cranberry Road shortly before 3 a.m., Bourne Police Chief Earl Baldwin said today.
After Parker had backed into the parked car again, the officer saw him exit the Honda and flee the scene, Baldwin said. Parker was the only person in either car.
During the ensuing search for Parker someone came to the Bourne police station and provided information that he was at the Jasper’s Too motel in Buzzards Bay, Baldwin said.
Bourne police and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the room at 6:50 a.m., according to a press release from O’Keefe’s office. Officers gained entry to the room and attempted to apprehend Parker.
But after numerous commands from both outside and inside the room once entry was made, a member of the Sheriff’s department fired one round, striking the man in the leg, O’Keefe said in a phone interview.
Parker was treated and released from Falmouth Hospital, was arrested and is currently out on bail. O’Keefe would not comment on the nature of the charges.
The unidentified deputy who shot the suspect is on administrative leave, which is mandatory following any shooting, O’Keefe said. “The case remains under investigation,” O’Keefe said.
The sheriff’s deputy who shot Parker is an eight-year veteran of the department, said Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings. The officer, who was unhurt, is a member of the department’s K-9 unit, Cummings said.
No law enforcement officials were injured during Parker’s arrest, Cummings said.
Cummings deferred further comment until after O’Keefe’s office had completed its investigation.
A manager at Jasper’s Too declined to comment on the shooting today and directed all questions to the Bourne police.

Wanted for LSPD and got shot, that lawsuit won't be too expensive.

Another sign that the sheriff's should stay where they belong...behind the walls. And before anyone starts complaining about my post, I was once a screw whoknew what his job was...care and custody, not serve and protect.

Does anyone know what actually happened?
The way the news report (if this is a surprise) makes it sound like is that they tried to get him out of the room he didn't want to come so the sheriff pulled out the duty weapon and shot him........ for some reason I don't think thats the way it went down.

Maybe it is the lack of training.

Why don't we wait to see what the investigation reveals before everyone starts convicting the deputy.

Unreal

Supposedly the suspect was holed up in a local hotel room with a subject with " know firearms violations". When the suspect refused/ignored commands to leave the room local and state police along with sheriff deputies entered the room and found the guy laying on the bed under the covers. He was laying on his stomach with his hands tucked underneath. He ignored repeat commands to show his hands and began to roll over when he was shot by the deputy. I pulled this info from Thursday's local cape paper. The statement comes from the Sheriff's office.

I agree.

I read a couple of articles and the statements that have been made public. Leaves one with more questions than answers.

Was there some other crime this guy was wanted for aside from the non-arrestable misdemeanor of leaving the scene of a property damage accident?

He hit an unoccupied parked car with no injuries and fled...how does that translate into storming his hotel room?

Was some sort of warrant being executed?

You'd think that would be mentioned by SOMEONE.

I sincerely hope for the careers of those involved that there are other factors involved here. Taking it at face value results in a big fuckarow, plain and simple. I guess we'll see what the damage control / investigation reveals...
