SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - A stroke of good luck saves a Springfield woman from possibly being shot to death early Saturday morning, when as many as half a dozen bullets ripped though her home.
Arlene Jenkins described to 22News what happened, "I usually sit right here in the chair and have a cigarette, thank God I wasn't here early this morning because the bullet came in right through the window and I would have been shot."
But something told her not to go out to the enclosed porch at 57 Grand Street as she frequently does about two o'clock in the morning. That's when someone fired seven rounds from two different guns according to Springfield Police Captain John Barbieri.
"All of a sudden I heard this shot and my main thought was to get my husband who fractured his foot that morning, to get him on the floor so he wouldn't get hurt," said Jenkins.
Captain Barbieri seriously doubts that the gunmen were targeting the Jenkins. Barbieri's hoping the shell casings point detectives in the direction of the people responsible for the bullet holes.
