I applied for a position with the Department of Public Health Campus Police in Jamaica Plane. I currently work for the state with DYS, and am looking for a transfer. I was contacted today and invited to take an exam for the DPH. I have never heard of campus police having an entrance exam. Has anyone heard of this, or taken the exam. If so, can I have advice on what to expect?

I dont beleive you have to take an exam to get in the didnt in the past. A co-worker of mine worked for them about 5 years ago so things might hae changed. Do you know if they carry now I know they didn't before but things change.

Nope. Never heard of it. It might be a civil service exam. In that case, don't sweat it.

The Campus/College PD's have tests to get on their departments. I took one at BC in 1986. I wouldn't worry about it though....most are standard type tests. Good Luck.

No they do not carry firearms. They carry OC and Baton. They wear LAPD blue and have a tan ford taurus with a LED lightbar and the patch on the door. I know someone who worked there and he said in the four years that he was there he had more arrests than any other dept he had worked for and including the one he works for now. He told me the chief overthere likes his guys making arrests. Have you been to the Shattuck? It is a very creepy and very dirty place, the place is very old! When i worked corrections I had a hospital detail at that place on the overnight shift and it was a little bit freaky!!!!!! Check it out for your selves.

The chief might like his guys making arrests but they're out of their minds making arrests without firearms. If your in uniform AND making arrests you should be armed. I agree with you about the Shattuck. I did a few details there when I worked for a county jail and it's like going back in time!

That's odd....a trooper who works the MSP station that covers the Shattuck has stated here that he hasn't seen them bring in more than a couple of arrests in 2-3 years.

I think your friend is exaggerating a bit.

That would be me Delta. And I think in the last two years they have brought in maybe 4 that I can think of. 4 would be on the high side too.

I didn't want to "out" you, considering your current location might preclude a quick answer.

Does anyone think this department will ever go armed. What is the pay like in this department?

They go in and out of a mental health building, which also has a prison ward for long term care prisoners. Oh look I see a patriot missle (launched from the administration) shooting down the argument to arm them.

Somehow, I don't see an administration being crazy about arming guys in a mental hospital/prison ward.
