Campus Police Officer - Public Safety
Reports to:
Shift Sergeant/Associate Director, Public Safety
Job Summary:
Patrols campus to ensure protection and safety of the campus population, buildings, and property as well as offers assistance to students, faculty, and visitors. Participates in campus activities and acts as a resource for community members. Must fully understand and implement all aspects of the community policing philosophy. May be called upon to enforce college rules, regulations, and state laws fairly and impartially.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Patrols campus on foot, on bicycle, or by vehicle on regular assigned rounds.
• Ensures security of buildings; opens and locks buildings, rooms and gates, and assists students, faculty and staff in gaining access to rooms; turns off lights and checks utilities.
• Makes reports of all unusual incidents during the tour of duty. Writes clear, concise and accurate reports in a manner consistent with established procedures.
• Provides Police services at campus events. Promotes and preserves an orderly, secure atmosphere within the college community.
• Facilitates the movement of people and vehicles; enforces traffic and parking regulations.
• Identifies all criminal offenses against the college, enforces college regulations and Massachusetts state laws, and where appropriate, participates in subsequent proceedings.
• Responds to emergency calls for assistance, evaluates the situation and implements appropriate actions consistent with established procedures.
• Makes decisions and takes action according to department policy as well as resolves conflicts without taking sides.
• May provide a variety of related services, including directing visitors to campus destination, transporting patients to Health Center (or other appropriate medical facility), and making deliveries.
• Exerts every effort to satisfy the needs of the college by courteously giving service, assistance, and information.
• May be required to perform the duties of a Dispatcher.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required:
Associate Degree
Minimum Level of Experience Required:
Less than one year
Working Conditions:
Regular physical exertion, walking, and exposure to weather required; Ability to travel on and off campus; and Ability to work late evenings, weekends, and overtime
Specific Hiring Qualifications:
• Candidate must meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Commission of Public Safety to obtain Special Police Powers, under Massachusetts General Law.
• Recruit must successfully complete an approved Basic Police Academy or be eligible for a waiver according to State Police standards.

Does anyone know if Babson has a union contract?

I believe they have a union contract. The pay starts around 19.00 and hour. The benefits are really good. They are unarmmed but I hear it is a good place to work.
