Anyone receive CO1 cards today. They are looking for 150 FullTime

I got mine today!! I'm stoked!!
I read in a previous post that after the January 21st academy, there was going to be an April academy. Does anyone know this for sure?

My buddy is a CO and he said they are hurting for people.

Got my card Friday. I am very exited about this!

really? cause i would be excited, i wouldn't leave

They will be hurting for numbers for some time...
It's already been stated in other threads numerous times. Lot's of people taking thier payout from contract and getting out. People staying for a short time and leaving, or more recently, a rash of people graduating and not reporting for duty lol. The pay, for the circumstances you work in, isn't that great. Maybe a great way for getting your foot in the door of the system, and hats off to the one's that do the 20. Now for the CPO's contract =P

Got mine the other day too. I'm going to sign at the Career Opportunities Fair on Feb. 2nd.
Anyone else planning on going??
Posted by: lavalleyb
I am definitely going to the Career Opportunities Fair on Feb. 2nd. I think it's pretty cool that they're doing this, especially the orientation that is specific to potential COs.
I am contemplating going earlier than the 2nd to sign, but I haven't decided yet...
Does anyone know if the PAT is different for women? I've been preparing for what's online and I can't imagine it would/should be, but I just thought I'd ask.
Posted by: invince
What questions do they ask you at the interview ? Also how long is the interview ? I want to prepare myself because I am horrible with interviews . If anyone could help I would appreciate it thanks .

lavalleyb: From what I've seen on the department intranet (I'm a COI) there are evaluations being done as far as the women's criteria that needs to be met for the PAT but nothing definitive... Again, that's only what I've seen. If you can do what they've been saying on the HRD site then all the power to you. You should be good to go, no problem.
Good luck to all, hope to see you behind the walls pretty soon! Any questions, feel free to PM and I'll do my best to answer. ~Nytro

The PAT is the same for women... my suggestion is to start working on upper body strength. I had a difficult time with that.

Does the DOC still have you go to your doctor for a physical exam or are they doing the Dr exam now. Couldnt get a Dr physical in time last year as the doc only gave me a weeks notice and my dr was booked out for the month.
Goodluck to everyone

I got a physical right at Caritas (think that's what the place is called). They do a hearing, sight, psych, and full physical right there.

NitroCop, Shannon, and everyone who offers up thoughts, advice, and even opinions... thank you!
I have been training for the PAT as though there wasn't a difference for men and women. After a test run of a couple of the exercises, I have a bit more work to do with the arm strength. I'm glad I tested it, because I was genuinely convinced I was all set in this particular area...
So for anyone taking the test, male or female, no matter how strong you think you are, I would suggest testing yourself on the lifts, just to make sure you're all set!

If you're going too fast on the "subjective" parts of the test (ie "running" up the stairs) the proctors will slow you up... conversely if you're dogging it they'll speed you up, too. From what I've heard from other guys, the people running the PAT are pretty good with keeping you informed of your progress while you're doing it. Nytro

Nytro's point above is right on. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that throughout all the phases of pre-screening, the D.O.C wants you to pass -- that's why they're hiring. That's not to say anyone should slack off at any point, but everyone is very helpful in pointing you in the right directions.
The guy that did my PT was very helpful and encouraging. I think out of about 20 or so of us who did the PT that day, only 1 or 2 failed, in large part due to the coaching of the PT folks. He also gave me a lot of good advice about preparing for the academy and what would be expected based on my performance at the PT.
And to answer the other question, Nytro again was correct -- they do everything medical, psych, hearing, vision, drug and PT testing all on the same day at Good Sam Occupational Health down in Avon. No more personal physican evaluations. (I just went through all this in December).
Just work hard and do what you're told! Good luck!

Thanks guys!!
I actually went out last night and bought a tub with handles and filled it with books and such around the house, weighed it with the bathroom scale, and proceeded to practice the lifts while watching tv! I felt somewhat foolish, but in addition to my gym time, hopefully this will better prepare me in the arm strength department!
I just set up my formal interview this morning. Febraury 11th, 8am sharp!!
Does anyone know if the background investigator actually checks in with your neighbors? The woman living below me is a little loopey... I'm wondering if I should start leaving pies and such on her door step?
Posted by: NytroCop
Yes, they do check with everyone!! they went to every job i listed, talked with former bosses, co-workers, the gamut... as well as neighbors.

Are you guys being picked from the september 07 test?
Posted by: m16
I'm pretty confused about the card. It says to report on or before Feb. 2nd, but I'm not sure what is gonna happen when I report. Is it just to set up an interveiw, or should I bring a resume and stuff?

The card says to report on or before Feb 2nd... what do I need to have with me?
Posted by: jj1979
As far as I know the cards that were dated Jan 22 were from the combined list. Which is the Sept 07 test and not sure which other tests. I got a letter to appear in Shirley for a Career Fair type event. I am sure they will probably answer alot of questions about the process and what to expect.

I actually took the trek up to Norfolk to sign last Friday.. and all they have you do is sign a paper saying that if offered the job, you will take it. Then you fill out a couple other forms, with really basic information on it. Someone reviews that information and if you meet the basic standards necessary, then you will receive a letter in the mail to call and set up your interview time.
I didn't bring anything with me as far a resume and such, and I was contacted for an interview.
I was told by the woman who set up my interview, that you go to the interview... if they pass you to the next level then a background investigator will be contacting you... that person will get into the nitty gritty of your life, and if they feel you're qualified, then you will be notified to take the physical test, a medical physical, psych, etc... all on the same day in Avon.... if all goes well with that, then you are pretty much good to go....
She also told me that the next tentative academy is May... could be earlier, could be later....
I hope that helps along with everyone else's feedback... this site has been excellent as far as helping potential newbies!!
OH!! But definitely bring your card with you tomorrow!!

From what we are gathering (inside looking out... or in the direction of Shirley). I'm gathering that this class that's in now should be graduating around the end of March/ early April. That should set the table for the next class to piggy-back on them after about two weeks.
I haven't heard anything but I would plan on Mid-April, early May the way that things are going. Best of luck to all candidates.

i'm in the current class, we graduate the last full week of march. march 28th i think, without looking at a calender. we haven't heard for sure when the next academy will start but by the sounds of things it will be right after ours....

Anyone else get a call from HR to setup interview only to call back the next day and be told all interview slots are filled up and basically tuff luck for CO1?
Just Amazing

You'll still probably get called back, I'd think, given the number of academies each year that they're putting through.
