It's Ugly, It Slobbers And It's BACK!

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The American Kennel Club is out with its list of the top 10 most popular dogs in the country. And this year, a newcomer has crashed the party -- for the first time in 75 years.

Warning to readers and viewers -- do not adjust your set or refresh your browser. This is a cuteness alert.

They come in all shapes and sizes and hairstyles.

But any pooch owner will tell you … the top dog in the world is ... their dog.

Still, it seems every year the Labrador retriever leads the pack on the AKC list of the most popular.

However, this year there's a new contender.

Yes, this year the humble, loveable bulldog is in the house.

"The big news is that the bulldog is in at No. 10," said the AKC's Daisy Oaks. "It waddled right into the 10 spot after a 75-year absence."

Granted, he's No. 10 way at the way at the bottom of the list, but, hey, the competition is ... ruff.

For the 17th year in a row, the Labrador retriever came in at No. 1. The Yorkshire terrier finished at No. 2, followed by the German shepherd, the golden retriever and beagle.

And then there's the bulldog, suddenly in striking distance.

So why the bulldog? Why now?

"Bulldogs are beautiful," Oaks said. "They're wrinkly, they're adorable. They're cuddly as your pictures will show. They're almost irresistible."

So what about the rest of the top 10 you ask?

Well, at No. 6 was the boxer, followed by dachshund, poodle, Shih Tzu and, at No. 10 ... the comeback kid ... the bulldog!
